June 29th Opening Act

Kevin Mitchell

“Playing acoustic guitar and singing about real stuff.”  The songs that  Kevin Mitchell plays and sings have the feel of a far off Woody Guthrie era, mixed with a contemporary roots vibe.”  Prairie born and raised( Regina), Kevin Mitchell has been on the west coast for 30 years. In the vein of Alt Country Roots, Folk and Blues, his songs are honest and engaging and performed with a unique style that plays like the band. Strong rhythms and uniquely original lyrics combine for a refreshing original sound. Recently he has stepped out onto the recording and performing scene making him what some may call an ’emerging artist His songs conjure up vivid imagery and timely metaphors that speak to the social and cultural issues that face the planet at this critical time. His songs tell stories about salt of the earth people, remote corners of the country , and forgotten relics  from his prairie roots, to life living on a Gulf Island on BCs’ west coast.

July 6 Main Act

The English Brothers

Brothers Luke and Drew English have been playing music together for a long time, as you could imagine. From the small town of Duncan, BC, they never had their own room growing up, having to share both room and instruments. Their interests have always been the same though, silly music, country classics, satirical theatre, the internet era, standup comedy and fantasy. So when Luke picks up his banjo or bass or accordion and Drew picks up his electric guitar, something hilarious is sure to happen. They bicker, as siblings do, flowing from tacky original to “original” covers, from ancient country to folk to funk and back again. Joined by the legendary Adam Goring on drums, the brothers have sold out every show they’ve performed so far. A real family treat!

Skinny Dyck

Resist the urge to laugh at Skinny Dyck – the playful alias of western Canada’s Ryan Dyck (or don’t, that’s kind of the idea). The new album Easygoing sees Dyck moving a few steps further away from the country music environs he once wholly inhabited, but fear not, twang fans; the “distilled the spirit of wide-cut country” (Exclaim!) lives deep in the blood.
