LELOLAI
Lelolai is an expression of joy! It’s a musical collective co-founded by the intercultural marriage of Italian-Canadian singer songwriter Laura Deviato and Cuban-Panamanian percussionist Olimpo Ortega. Their unique style combines Latin percussion with guitar/vocals, groovy beats and enchanting melodies, creating a fresh sound all their own. Original songs with thought provoking lyrics transcend genres flowing seamlessly through Folk- Funk-Soul-Latin in English, Italian and Spanish. They honed their craft on the streets and stages of Latin America, Europe and now Canada! They have opened for international acts such as Sr. Loop from Panama and Cultura Profetica from Puerto Rico. Currently residing in Victoria BC, you will find them playing and performing at celebrations and events around Vancouver Island.
Lelolai creates an uplifting and interactive musical experience for all ages, their rhythm calling you to reflect, connect and celebrate!

Murfitt & Main
Murfitt & Main plumb the depths of country, bluegrass, and western swing, playing home-made songs steeped in the living tradition of roots music. Their original songs possess a clarity rooted in the musical traditions of rural North America, in a contemporary voice. Heartbreak, honky-tonks, whiskey, unions, religion, the Canadian terrain, and the Berlin wall are all fair game in their songwriting. Sweet vocal harmonies draw listeners in adding that high lonesome country sound to the mix.
Comprising the core of the band are the two song-smiths Warren Murfitt (guitar and vocals), and Kate Main (upright bass and vocals).
Half/Asian + Amy the CODA
Half/Asian + Amy the CODA are an audio-visual performing duo creating art that is rooted in identity exploration and embodiment. HALF/ASIAN plays synthesizers from the 80’s purchased at thrift stores and sings in English. Amy the CODA sings in both English and Sign Language. Amy’s mother is Deaf and Pidgin Signed English is Amy’s first language.
For Ian, it started with the purchase of a Yamaha PSR 36 from Value Village – and has grown into a distinct sound that pushes the boundaries of synthesizer programming – going beyond the parameters it was designed for. The lyricism ranges from fractured poetry to poignant storytelling and narratives. Their sound has been likened to Chromeo and early Gorillaz, mixed with George Harrison.
For Amy, it started with signing along to one of Ian’s songs recreationally and realizing that she had lost the majority of her sign language fluency through having a profession that is not centered around the deaf community and interpreting. Her performance fully embraces her bi-lingual and bi-cultural identity as a CODA (Child of a Deaf Adult) by including both spoken language and signed language.
